So if you've been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you may not know that there's a campaign (propagated by facebook) that is set to get Rage Against The Machines' Killing in the Name of (with strange capitalisation by me) to be the Christmas number one ahead of X-Factors puppet, whatever his name is, I don't care.
Now for those of you who may be thinking, but this is stupid it's just a bunch of teenagers/students who want to be disruptive and ruin something. And to you'd I'd say, yes and no. It's mostly students etc. but there are also some of us who are not students but still don't like the whole X-Factor thing and would love to see it buried.
I was wondering why Rage Against the Machine was chosen, but it fits quite nicely, firstly raging against the machine than it X-Factor and it's pop spewing machine thingy and also they're a revolutionary band which is similar to this in the way that it's the peoples voice on what should be the Christmas number 1. Worst explanation ever.
Now why should you download Rage's Killing in the Name of? well, firstly it's a pretty cool track but secondly it helps further genuine charity, not just fake, we'll donate 10p for every copy we sell, but obviously we want to keep most of the profits for are bloated egos, charity (though not entirely sure that's true, they may donate all the proceeds).
The facebook page for this venture has a link to a JustGiving page (as well as where to buy the track) with donations going to shelter and a message encouraging people to donate to Shelter if they bought the track as a way of aligning themselves with the charity donations from the X-Factor track. This is a great idea as it allows people to donate much more than they pay for the track and relies on people actually making an effort to donate rather than a bonus for buying a track, so far it's raised more than £36,000 for Shelter and hopefully that will continue to grow.
Further more if you're a Strictly Come Dancing fan, then you can stick it to X-Factor in another way, buy supporting this group.
So basically, don't think of this a silly and childish, but a genuine voice of the people standing up and saying, "X-Factor, SHUT IT!" and doing something good in the process.
